Breathing Difficulty

Breathing difficulty can vary from subtle to acute.

Signs:

• Flared nostrils
• Obvious increase in rate and effort of breathing (abdominal muscles move more than usual)
• Reluctance to move

What to do:

 

• Remove the horse from the suspected cause of the problem
• Keep the horse calm and relaxed and do not move unnecessarily
• If the horse has previously been prescribed an inhaler administer a rescue dose
• Consult your vet without dela
