Pre-Purchase Examinations/”Vettings”
We perform many vettings each year and can provide you with a professional and informed opinion on the suitability of a horse before you buy them. Having a horse vetted by one our vets gives you peace of mind as well as confidence in the horse you are investing in.
We offer comprehensive five-stage vettings complete with a full written report and a VDS blood sample that is stored at Newmarket for up to six months in case further testing is required.
The vetting consists of 5 stages:
- Preliminary examination
- Trotting up and flexion tests
- Strenuous exercise
- Period of rest
- A second trot up and foot examination
We seek to identify existing or potential issues with the horse, so you know exactly what you are buying.
We do carry out two stage vettings on occasion, however we do not recommend these when buying a horse. If you need any further advice please ring the practice and talk to one of the vets who would be happy to run through the procedure with you in more detail and answer any questions you may have.
